Rain havoc in Hyderabad; water levels rise alarmingly in Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar
Inflow to the twin reservoirs of the city Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar has increased resulted in lifted two gates of both the reservoirs
HYDERABAD: Amid heavy rain in Hyderabad City on Thursday night, the inflow to the twin reservoirs of the city Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar has increased rapidly. The officials lifted two gates of both the reservoirs and released the water downstream (into the Musi River). They also alerted the people living under the Musi River basin to be vigilant as heavy rains are predicted in the city.
Meanwhile, the inflow to the Osman Sagar was recorded as 600 cusecs out of which 422 cusecs of flood water was released downstream. While the Himayat Sagar registered an inflow of 600 cusecs and an outflow was recorded as 678 cusecs.
Hyderabad witnessed continuous rains for straight two hours on Thursday night, which led to the submergence of several roads in the city. Incessant rains caused great inconvenience to the public. The low-lying areas were inundated, creating panic amongst the residents. The GHMC officials immediately alerted the locals and advised them to be vigilant. The city is expected to report heavy rains in the next two days.
