Reactors' explosion in biotech unit leaves several injured in Jeedimetla

HYDERABAD: Several workers were reported to have been injured after five reactors exploded at Sridhar Biotech Company in the Jeedimetla industrial area on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Monday. Unconfirmed reports claimed that the number of injured could be anywhere between seven and 11. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Four fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the fire and bring the situation under control.

Local people in the neighbourhood were first disturbed by loud noises of explosion from the industrial area. However, everyone assumed them to be the result of a short circuit. But the news of the industrial accident came to the fore when the management confirmed the explosion of the reactors on its premises.

Initially, there was uncertainty on the number of persons injured. There were also suspicions that a few could have been trapped inside. The Jeedimetla Police reached the spot and monitored the rescue operations.
