Telangana will be the first state in the country to draft a piece of legislation on cybercrime, said KTR
HYDERABAD: Telangana will be the first state in the country to draft a piece of legislation on cybercrime, said Telangana Minister for Information and Technology K T Rama Rao on Saturday. The IT Minister along with Telangana Home Minister, Mahmood Ali inaugurated the Telangana State Police Centre of Excellence for Cyber Safety (TPCC) at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said, "In a world of interconnected devices, cybersecurity becomes difficult. Each gadget or system we use is supremely vulnerable and therefore cybersecurity becomes a crucial task." Dense cybercrimes are not found in big metro cities but in small towns, he added.
The Minister further emphasized the importance of awareness that needs to be promoted for cybersecurity. "There is a country-wide cybercrime toll-free number- 1930, which is not well-known to everyone. This toll-free number must be promoted and used by citizens at the time of deceit," said KTR.
The IT Minister said most of the victims of cybercrime are who live in the cyber world, especially the IT people. "If you could reach out to the IT workers to pool them to work with the police, it would result in an effective cybersecurity system similar to the village police officer system," said KTR.
The IT minister, upon the request of the social worker Sunitha Krishnan, also appealed to the police to curate a list of sexual offenders. He further said that these offenders will not be provided any government privileges or employment.
