HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people to hoist the National Flag at their homes from August 13 to August 15 and strengthen the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' (Tiranga in every house) movement.

He tweeted on Thursday and said, "This year, when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, let us strengthen the Har Ghar Tiranga Movement. Hoist the Tricolour or display it in your homes between 13th and 15th August. This movement will deepen our connect with the national flag."

In another tweet, Modi mentioned that today, July 22, the National Flag was adopted. He wrote "Today, 22nd July has a special relevance in our history. It was on this day in 1947 that our National Flag was adopted. Sharing some interesting nuggets from history including details of the committee associated with our Tricolour and the first Tricolour unfurled by Pandit Nehru."

The Central Government also exempted the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the sale of the national flag made of polyester. Hand-woven flags made of cotton, silk, wool, or khadi were already exempted from such taxation. The Department of Revenue, under the Ministry of Finance, in a statement said that the Indian National flag that follows the Flag Code 2002, which specified the description and rules of hoisting, wouldl be exempted from GST.
