NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on Sunday. The scheme envisages ease of passenger movement, convenience, and integration of the stations with the surrounding area, including the look and feel of various passenger amenities.

“All the proposed railway stations will be completely refurbished with huge waiting halls, restrooms, lifts, escalators, free wifi, one station, one product shop to promote local products, information kiosks, executive lounges, gardens, and conference halls,” Narendra Modi said. The proposed works include linkages with the areas located on either side of the stations. The stations would be made differently-able, friendly with sustainable and environment-friendly construction with roof plazas, and concrete walkways, leaving enough space for future consumption, he said.

Under phase-I of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 21 railway stations in Telangana and 18 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh would be developed under the scheme. At Nampally railway station, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarrajan participated in the programme and unveiled the plaque of Hyderabad station redevelopment project under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. In Karimnagar railway station, BJP national general secretary and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar participated in a similar programme.

In Telangana, 21 railway stations would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 894.09 crore, which includes Hyderabad (Nampally)-Rs 309 crore Nizamabad-Rs 53.3 crore Kamareddy -Rs 39.9 Crore Mahabubnagar-Rs 39.9 crore Mahabubabad- Rs 39.7 crore Malakpet (Hyderabad)- Rs 36.4 crore Malkajgiri (Medchal)- Rs 27.6 crore Uppuguda (Hyderabad)- Rs 26.8 crore. Hafeezpet (Hyderabad)- Rs 26.6 crore Hitech City (Hyderabad)- Rs 26.6 crore Karimnagar -Rs 26.6 crore Ramagundam- Rs 26.5 crore Khammam-Rs 25.4 crore Madhira (Khammam)-Rs 25.4 crore Jangaon- 24.5 crore Yadadri- Rs 24.5 crore Khajipet Junction- Rs 24.5 crore Tandur (Vikarabad)-Rs 24.4 crore Bhadrachalam Road - Rs 24.4 crore Zaheerabad- Rs 24.4 crore Adilabad - Rs 17.8 crore.

In Andhra Pradesh, Governor S Abdul Nazeer participated in a programme organised at Eluru railway station and unveiled a plaque for the redevelopment project of the station. As many as 18 railway stations would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 453.50 crore that included Kurnool City-Rs 42.6 crore, Vizianagaram- Rs 35.76 crore, Tenali-Rs 27.13 crore, Tadepalligudem-Rs 27.13 crore, Ankapalle- Rs 27.1 crore, Nidadavolu Junction-Rs 27.1 crore, Duvvada-Rs 26.31 crore, Narasapuram-Rs 25.7 crore, Repalle-Rs 25.5 crore, Singarayakonda-Rs 25.13 crore, Palasa-Rs 23.85 crore, Bhimavaram-Rs 22.1 crore, Kakinada Town Junction-Rs 21.1 crore, Eluru-Rs 21.1 crore, Piduguralla-Rs 19.3 crore, Tuni-Rs 19.13 crore, Ongole-Rs 19.1 crore and Donakonda-Rs 18.3 crore.
