Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev undergoes emergency brain surgery, after ignoring prolonged headache
A CT scan on March 17 revealed increased brain swelling and a life-threatening shift of the brain. Given the urgency, Sadhguru underwent emergency brain surgery to remove bleeding.
HYDERABAD: Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the founder of Isha Foundation, recently underwent emergency brain surgery to address a life-threatening situation.
Doctors at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi said, "For the past four weeks, Sadhguru had been suffering from severe headaches. Despite the pain, he continued with his regular activities, even conducting the Maha Shivaratri function on March 8, 2024.
By March 15, the headaches became unbearable, prompting Sadhguru to consult Dr Vinit Suri, a senior neurologist at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. An MRI scan revealed a critical condition - a massive bleed in the brain. The scan showed evidence of both chronic bleeding (3-4 weeks old) and a fresh bleed within the last 48 hours."
Doctors at the hospital then advised immediate hospitalisation, but Sadhguru had said that he had prior commitments - meetings on March 15 and a news channel conclave on March 16. Remarkably, as per Dr Suri, Sadhguru said, "I have never missed a single meeting in my last 40 years," and pushed through the meetings despite the pain, with the help of medication.
On March 17, Sadhguru's condition worsened significantly. He experienced a decline in consciousness, weakness in his left leg, and worsening headaches with vomiting. Finally, he agreed to be admitted to the hospital.
A CT scan on March 17 revealed a critical situation - increased brain swelling and a life-threatening shift of the brain. Given the urgency, Sadhguru underwent emergency brain surgery within a few hours of admission to remove the bleeding.
"Fortunately, Sadhguru has shown steady progress since the surgery. His brain function, body vitals, and overall health are improving," said a media release by the hospital.
Dr Vinit Suri commented, "Sadhguru is healing himself, apart from the medical measures instituted by us."
