SCR relaxes rules on unreserved ticket purchase through UTS Mobile App

HYDERABAD: Unreserved tickets are now available in suburban stations beyond 15 metres and within 10 kilometres, as well as non-suburban stations beyond 15 metres and within 20 kilometres, says South Central Railways (SCR).
In order to give customers who purchase unreserved tickets a simple and convenient ticketing process, South Central Railway launched the UTS Mobile Application in the year 2018.
The reports state that the app has seen an increase in usage since receiving positive feedback from rail users. Indian Railways has relaxed the distance restriction by allowing unreserved passengers to utilise the digital purchasing option at more locations, which would encourage rail users to use the app even more.
The existing distance restriction for using the App to purchase unreserved tickets has been relaxed from 5 km to 10 km in the case of suburban stations and from 5 km to 20 km in the case of non-suburban stations.
According to SCR, unreserved journey tickets can now be purchased: beyond 15 metres and within 10 kilometres of the journey's starting point in the case of suburban stations; and beyond 15 metres and within 20 kilometres of the journey's starting point in the case of non-suburban stations.
Arun Kumar Jain, general manager in charge of South Central Railway, has urged all rail users in general and people travelling in unreserved compartments in particular to use the UTS Mobile App and have a comfortable trip without having to stand in line or wait for tickets at stations.
The UTS smartphone APP is typically a more convenient solution to get hassle-free train tickets for Indian Railways customers, who make up a significant portion of unreserved ticket travellers. It is free to download the APP, which functions on smart phones running the Android, iOS, and Windows operating systems. The key advantages of this APP are that customers can purchase unreserved, platform, and season tickets using their mobile devices (cashless) at their convenience, avoiding lines at ticket desks. It is also eco-friendly because it is paperless. Wallets like R-Wallet, PayTM, and Mobikwik, as well as internet banking, are options for making the payment. This facility represents a significant advance for unreserved tickets and is beneficial to rail customers.
