Draupadi Murmu; NDA's nominee for President
NDA announced Former Governor of Jharkhand, Draupadi Murmu, as Presidential candidate for upcoming elections on Tuesday.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced Former Governor of Jharkhand, Draupadi Murmu, as its Presidential candidate for upcoming elections on Tuesday.
Murmu, the most-probable second woman President of India, was born on June 20, 1958. She had served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.
She held many important positions within the BJP throughout her political career.
The BJP finalised her name for the top job at its Parliamentary Board meeting attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other big wigs of the party.
Murmu went on to the become national executive member of the BJP and was head of its ST Morcha for two years from 2013 to 2015.
She first became a councillor and vice-chairperson of Rairangpur, Odisha, in 1997. The same year, Murmu was chosen for the state vice-president of the BJP's ST Morcha.
