T Jayaprakash Reddy (INC)
Jayaprakash Reddy aka Thurupu Jaga Reddy was born on July 7, 1966 in Indrakaran village of Kandi Mandal in Sangareddy district. His parents are Jaggareddy and Jamayamma. He married K Nirmala and the couple have two children. In 1986, he started his political career as a BJP councillor of Sangareddy municipality. In 1995, he became the chairman of the municipality..
In the 2004 Assembly elections, he contested on behalf of the TRS from the Sangareddy constituency and won by a majority of 17,676 votes against his nearest rival BJP candidate K Satyanarayana. Later, he joined the Congress. In 2009, he contested on behalf of the Congress party and won as an MLA. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Government Whip. In the 2014 Assembly elections, he contested from the Sangareddy constituency on behalf of the Congress and was defeated by the TRS candidate Chinta Prabhakar by a margin of 29,814 votes.
Before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he joined the BJP and contested from the Medak Lok Sabha constituency and was defeated by the TRS. In 2015, he returned to the Congress. In the 2018 Assembly elections, he contested on behalf of the INC from Sangareddy constituency and won against the TRS candidate Chinta Prabhakar by a majority of 2,522 votes. In 2018, he served as a member of the Public Estimates Committee (PEC) in the Legislative Assembly.
Chinta Prabhakar (BRS)
Prabhakar was born on August 10, 1959 in Sadashivpet mandal, Medak district. In 1976, he pursued class X from Government High School at Sadashivpet. He is a business man. He began his political journey with the TDP. He served as chairman of the Sangareddy municipality. He contested the 2009 Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Sangareddy and was defeated by his nearest rival INC candidate T Jaga Reddy by a margin of 6,772 votes.
Prabhakar joined the TRS in 2011 and was appointed as in-charge of the Sangareddy constituency. He contested on behalf of the TRS in the 2014 Telangana Assembly elections after the formation of Telangana State. He won as an MLA for the first time with a majority of 29,814 votes over Jagga Reddy. In the 2018 Assembly elections, he was defeated by Jagga Reddy by a margin of 2,589 votes. He was appointed as the chairman of Telangana State Handloom Development Corporation in September 2022. Prabhakar is going to face Jagga Reddy in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Pulimamidi Raju (BJP)
Pulimamidi Raju was born on December 15, 1980 in Pathakeri village in Sadashivpet mandal, Sangareddy district. His parents are Pulimamidi Mallaiah and Bhagamma. He pursued class 10 in the ZP Boy’s High School at Sadashivpet in 1996. Pulimamidi Raju’s ventured into PMR Developer Infrastructure. Raju began his political career with the TRS in 2013. In 2020, he was elected as the ward councillor from the 12th ward in Sadashivpet. In 2021, he was elected as the district president for the Mudiraj community in Sangareddy. However, he aspired to take on the BRS ticket from Sangareddy in the 2023 Assembly elections. With the BRS leadership preferred Chinta Prabhakar's candidature over him, Raju quit the party. He joined the BJP in September 2023 and is now going to face Chinta Prabhakar from the BRS and T Jagga Reddy from the INC.
Constituency information:
- Sangareddy ispredominantly an urban Assembly and the pharma industry is well-developed in this region.
- Sangareddy and Sadashivpet are two municipalities in the constituency.
- Most of the Andhra settlers live in the Sangareddy municipality limits.
- Historically, the seat was won by the Reddy community, except for a couple times it was won by the Kamma community.
- The BJP had won this seat once in 1999 by R Satyanarayana of Kamma community in alliance with the TDP.
- The TRS had won this seat twice, in the 2004 and 2014 Assembly elections.
- In 1994, the TDP had won this constituency and in the rest of the elections this seat was won by the INC with the support of Brahmin and Reddy community leaders.
2014 Assembly elections Analysis:
- In the 2014 Assembly elections, Chinta Prabhakar, ex- municipal chairman of Sadasivpet in Sangareddy contested on behalf of the TRS ticket against sitting MLA Jagga Reddy. He won the election with a majority of 21,000 votes.
- The BJP had secured as many as 1,19,14 votes in alliance with the TDP.
- Jagga Reddy had supported for unified Andhra Pradesh, Ameenpur land, anti-incumbency, Sri Ram Navami riots were major reasons for Jagga Reddy's defeat in the constituency.
- Telangana sentiment, BC voters and traditional TRS support had helped Chinta Prabhakar to win the election.
2018 Assembly elections Analysis:
- In the 2018 Assembly elections, sitting MLA Chinta Prabhakar was defeated by Jagga Reddy by a margin of 2,522 votes. The major reasons for Prabhakar's defeat was his inaccessibility to people and internal rifts among the TRS leaders.
- The popularity of Jagga Reddy and his accessibility and sympathy amongst the public helped him wrest back seat from the TRS.
- The BJP's performance was decimated compared to the 2014 Assembly elections. The BJP secured a meager of 7,600 votes.
