HYDERABAD: Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has strongly condemned the demolition of the N-Convention Centre in Madhapur, which he owns, expressing deep disappointment and anger over the incident.

The Hyderabad Disaster Relief and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) executed the demolition on Saturday. According to the authorities, the N-Convention Centre, which occupies 10 acres, was found to have encroached on 1.12 acres of lake land and an additional 2 acres within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone areas of Tummidikunta Lake, which spans a total FTL area of 29.24 acres.

In a post on the micro-blogging site 'X' (formerly Twitter), Nagarjuna labelled the demolition as illegal and contradictory to existing court orders. He expressed his dismay, stating, "Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N-Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and Court cases. I thought it fit to issue this statement to place on record certain facts for protecting my reputation and to indicate that we have not done any actions in violation of law."

He clarified that the land in question is Patta land and emphasised that not even an inch of tank plan had been encroached upon. He further pointed out that there was a stay order in place against any prior demolition notices and accused the authorities of acting on misinformation without issuing prior notice.

"As a law-abiding citizen, if the court before which the matter is pending had decided against me, I would have carried out the demolition myself," Nagarjuna stated. He asserted that his public statement was intended to clarify the constructions' legality and correct any public misconceptions. "I am placing this on record for the purpose of correcting any public misimpression about wrongful constructions or encroachment by us. We would be seeking appropriate relief from the court in relation to the wrong actions carried out by the authorities," he added.
