HYDERABAD: A heated debate ensued between the AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the Telangana Assembly on Thursday.

During the discussion on the white paper tabled by the Congress party about losses in the power sector, Revanth Reddy said that the AIMIM did not mention about the wrong doings of the BRS Government in the power sector. He criticised Akbaruddin for trying his best to save his old friend (BRS) and that friendship with such people was not good for the AIMIM. He added that everyone knew about the AIMIM's friendships from NT Rama Rao to K Chandrashekar Rao's reign.

Responding to Revanth Reddy, Akbaruddin said, "Inspite of having a political career which started with with the ABVP, then TRS, then BJP, the TDP and also the RSS, and now the Congress, he should be more mature (in his political discourse). It is so sad."

Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi expressed concern about ‘discrepancies’ in the white paper presented by the Congress Government and said that Telangana has become the number one State in the country in per capita electricity consumption.

Owaisi said that Telangana was the only State which was providing 24 hours continuous electricity to all sectors.

"Telangana's per capita electricity consumption is higher than the country's average. Compared to 2014, power generation in Telangana has increased significantly. A large number of powerlines and substations have been built in the State. Power charges for household consumers have not been increased for a long time. Electricity supply to agriculture has increased massively. GENCO assets under the BRS Government's rule has increased from Rs 12,783 crore to Rs 40,454 crore," he said.

Reminding the Government of its manifesto, Owaisi asked, "Congress had promised to provide free electricity up to 200 units per household. There is no announcement about it till now."

The MIM MLA suggested that the electricity bills of Government departments be paid directly to the discoms.
