HYDERABAD: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) criticised the Congress government for its ongoing demolition drive along the Musi riverbanks, accusing it of causing widespread distress among residents.

In a post on micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter), the BRS party claimed that the survey and marking of illegal constructions, followed by demolition plans, have sparked public outrage in multiple areas, particularly in Hyderabad’s KCR Nagar and other riverbank settlements.

Hundreds of families residing along the River Musi protested against the government’s actions, expressing fears of losing their homes. Many residents, including women, openly voiced their anger at the sudden demolitions, accusing the government of neglecting their long-standing presence in the area. "We did not vote to have our homes destroyed," one woman in KCR Nagar exclaimed, while others described the actions as an attack on their livelihoods.

The BRS’s official statement on Twitter reflected the intensity of the protests, with residents blaming the Congress government for putting their lives and homes at risk. The opposition party questioned the administration's commitment to the welfare of the poor, alleging that it was focused on destroying homes rather than addressing the concerns of the affected residents.

Despite assurances from authorities regarding relocation and alternative housing, the demolition drive continues to face stiff resistance.
