BRS MLA Tellam Venkat Rao joins Congress, KTR slams Congress’s double standards
This development comes as a blow to the BRS party, especially in the political landscape of Khammam, where Tellam Venkata Rao, the lone MLA representing the BRS, decided to switch allegiance.
HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) faced another significant setback during the election season as its Bhadrachalam sitting MLA Tellam Venkat Rao joined the Congress party in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Sunday.
This development comes as a blow to the BRS party, especially in the political landscape of Khammam, where Tellam Venkata Rao, the lone MLA representing the BRS, decided to switch allegiance and joined the Congress leaving the BRS party without representation.
Taking to X, BRS working president and former Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress party of double standards. Pointing out that the Congress sought automatic disqualification of turncoat MLAs and MPs in their election manifesto, KTR slammed the Congress party for poaching the BRS MLAs. KTR accused the Congress of being hypocritical by encouraging defections from other parties covertly and questioned the sincerity of their manifesto promises.
He highlighted the inconsistency in the grand old party's actions, stating that they said one thing before winning elections and another after winning. KTR questioned the credibility of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and compared the Congress party to the BJP for making false promises.
