HYDERABAD: BRS MLAs have submitted petitions to Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, demanding the disqualification of ten BRS MLAs who defected to the Congress party after winning on the BRS ticket.

BRS Working President K Tarakara Rama Rao, who led the delegation of MLAs, criticised the Congress party for its contradictory stance on defections. He pointed out that while Rahul Gandhi champions upholding the Constitution, the Congress party in Telangana seems to be acting against it by encouraging defections.

KTR highlighted instances of Congress's inconsistent stand on defections, citing examples from Haryana, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh. He emphasised that the Supreme Court has taken a serious view of defections and urged the Speaker to act in accordance with the Supreme Court's guidelines.

He informed that the BRS MLAs presented the Speaker with Supreme Court and High Court judgments related to defections, emphasising the urgency of the matter. He stressed that the Supreme Court mandated a decision within three months in defection cases and warned that inaction could lead to the Supreme Court's intervention.

The BRS MLAs urged the Speaker to uphold the sanctity of his position and take swift action against the defectors, citing the Supreme Court's judgment that empowers the Speaker to disqualify MLAs involved in defections.

They also brought to the Speaker's attention alleged protocol violations by officials in constituencies won by BRS MLAs. The MLAs claimed that officials were giving priority to defeated Congress candidates over elected BRS representatives, urging the Speaker to address these concerns.
