HYDERABAD: In a paradigm shift to the way politics are practiced in India, Telangana IT and Industries Minister and working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) KT Rama Rao (KTR) wanted people of the country to unite first rather than political parties uniting with an aim to bring down a particular person or party.

“People will decide who will be the next Prime Minister of the country, we (political parties) must not underestimate the collective wisdom of the people,” KTR said while interacting with the media on Thursday, after his successful visit to UK and the USA.

Predicting a defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, KTR pointed out that people had already decided to bid goodbye to him as he was the most “incapable, ineffective and inefficient” Prime Minister in the annals of Indian history. “When an LPG cylinder cost Rs 400 in 2014, Narendra Modi derided then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and asked people to send him, now the same cylinder costs Rs 1,200, it’s is time now for us to say Modi go home,” he reasoned.

“In my personal opinion, former Prime Minister and Telugu pride PV Narasimha Rao is the best and most effective, but unfortunately he was the most underrated PM,” he said while answering a question about who was the best PM so far.

On the recent statement of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi KTR said that Owaisi must first clarify whether the Telangana model of minority welfare did wonders or not.

“Owaisi while addressing people in Uttar Pradesh talks about the minority welfare programmes implemented back home in Telangana, but when he returns home, he says the BRS has not done enough for minorities,” he wondered while commenting on the love-hate relationship of the MIM with the ruling BRS in the state. When asked about the split in the anti-BJP vote if Majlis contested in more seats outside its regular political arena, KTR refused to tow the communal angle and said that all Muslims could not be categorised as pro-Majlis.

Ruling out alliances with any particular group or forming third or fourth fronts, the Minister said that he would not believe that there were only two political options for the people to choose from. India was not bipolar and did not have just two political parties. It had multiple parties. “For instance, in Karnataka, the victory of the Congress is the result of the anger of the common man against the corrupt and the sectarian BJP,” he said. That did not mean they were in favour of the Congress, but that’s the available alternative to the BJP in that State.

He said that BRS in its effort to gain strength in other states such as Maharashtra had not propagated fear or hatred against Narendra Modi or any political outfit. “We have projected the benefits of extrapolating BRS’s victories in Telangana in the fields of irrigation drinking water, and financial assistance to farmers in those states,”KTR said.
