HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has drawn criticism from intellectuals and netizens following a statement he made at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a Very Low Frequency (VLF) radar station in Vikarabad.

During his speech, Revanth Reddy claimed that Hyderabad and Telangana are surrounded by three seas - Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean - causing widespread amusement and outrage.

Revanth Reddy's comments, which were meant to highlight Hyderabad's strategic importance to India’s defense sector, inadvertently exposed a geographical inaccuracy. Telangana, a landlocked state, has no direct access to any sea. The video of his speech quickly went viral on social media, with many mocking his statement. Some users humorously suggested that Revanth Reddy may have mistaken the local water bodies like Hussain Sagar, Gandipet, and Himayat Sagar for seas.

Critics from Telangana's intellectual community also questioned the CM's understanding of geography, asking him to clarify which seas he was referring to. The incident has ignited a wave of satire online, with netizens poking fun at Reddy's statement.

At the VLF radar inauguration, Revanth Reddy also emphasised Hyderabad’s significant role in India’s defense production, particularly in the manufacturing of missiles, nuclear fuels, and ordnance. Despite the positive aspects of his speech, it was the sea-related comment that captured the most attention.
