Congress will take up caste census, if voted to power: Rahul Gandhi
"For the development of the country, people from all walks of life should be involved. That is why a caste census is needed. The census will act as an x-ray for the nation," Rahul said.
Bhupalapally: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has said that they will take up a caste census in Telangana, just like how they are undertaking the exercise in Rajasthan, Karnataka and other Congress-ruled States, as soon as they come to power in the State.
Speaking on second day of the Vijay Bheri Yatra of the party, Rahul said, "When I asked in the Parliament about the number of BCs, SCs and STs who have been appointed as officers in the country, I came to know that only 5 per cent of the officers are from these categories. For the development of the country, people from all walks of life should be involved. That is why a caste census is needed. The census will act as an x-ray for the nation. When I speak on caste census, neither the Prime Minister nor the Telangana Chief Minister say anything."
Terming that the BRS, the MIM and the BJP were all working hand-in-glove, Rahul said, "Telangana wanted a public Government. But what they got was rule by a single family.
The BRS, the BJP and the MIM are conspiring to defeat the Congress. The BJP is trying to scare the opposition with CBI and ED cases. If KCR is really fighting against the BJP, why has the ED and the CBI not filed cases against KCR?
"Even the MIM party is not fighting against the BJP. It is indirectly supporting the party across the country. In fact the MIM fields candidates by coordinating with the BJP," he said.
Targetting the BJP Government at the Centre, Rahul said, "If Adani takes lakhs and crores of debt, they are being waived off by the Centre. But they don't waive off a farmer or a self-employed worker's loan. Modi is trying to hand over the wealth of the country to Adani. We should take up a caste census and ensure that the wealth of the country reaches all sections of the society."
Rahul concluded that the Congress would implement the six guarantees in Telangana as soon as they come to power here just like how they have been implementing the guarantees given in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.
