Constable aspirants lay siege to Telangana Assembly, DGP office over GO 46
The candidates who marched from the DGP's office towards the Assembly were protesting against the GO 46
HYDERABAD: Tension erupted at Telangana Assembly and DGP office in Hyderabad on Friday when constable aspirants attempted to lay siege to the buildings.
The candidates who marched from the DGP's office towards the Assembly were protesting against the GO 46. They expressed concern over the GO 46, arguing that if it was implemented in the recruitment process, candidates, especially those from rural areas, would suffer.
The protesting applicants were prevented from entering the DGP's office and Telangana Assembly by the police, who detained them and transferred them to a nearby police station.
Aspirants say that recruitment based on 2011 census data, as per GO 46, would result in fewer vacancies for rural candidates despite higher cutoff marks, and that rural candidates would lose selection opportunities in larger cities like Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Commissionerate.
The protestors demanded that GO 46 be removed from the Telangana State Special Police Recruitment Board Constable Exam and appealed to the State Government for justice, claiming that the execution of GO 46 would jeopardise the careers of aspirants from rural areas of the state.
