HYDERABAD: The Telangana Government has released Rs 167.59 crore towards the waiver of farm loans ranging from Rs 37,000 to Rs 41, 000 on Thursday benefitting 44,870 farmers.
The disbursement began as per the assurance given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar for the completion of the scheme in a phased manner by the second week of September.
On the other hand, Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy urged all the District Agricultural Officers (DAOs) to immediately upload pending ‘Rytu Bima’ applications as the deadline was fast approaching. He said that farmers must be encouraged to apply organic and green manures in place of chemical fertilisers, for better soil health. However, he informed the officers that the State had sufficient stocks of major fertilisers for the season.
He observed that farmers could take up paddy, red gram and capsicum till the end of August despite the delay in the onset of monsoon. He advised them to also collect crop data for a comprehensive picture of the ‘Vanakalam’ acreage and the estimated yields. He said that farmers in the State took up the cultivation of regular crops on 83 lakh acres and horticultural crops on 7.50 lakh crops. The minister sought the help of officers to spread awareness of the advantages of shifting to palm oil cultivation in suitable areas.
