Cyberabad Police implementing signal-free junctions to ease IT corridor traffic
Signal-free junctions being developed to address heavy traffic in Cyberabad's IT corridor.
HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Police are implementing measures to address the traffic congestion in the IT corridor, which sees a daily influx of nearly 15-20 lakh commuters due to the heavy vehicle movement. This area, home to numerous IT companies, has prompted authorities to introduce various traffic management measures. As part of these efforts, major junctions in the area are being converted into signal-free and traffic-free zones to streamline traffic flow.
Major junctions, such as the Gachibowli IIT Junction, are undergoing expansion. The road from Gachibowli PAS entrance to the police station is being widened to facilitate smoother traffic flow from the ORR and the Cyberabad CP office to the Financial District. This expansion will allow commuters to bypass signals at the IIT Junction, reducing waiting times significantly.
Furthermore, vehicles coming from the HCU direction will soon be able to pass through the IIT Junction without stopping for signals. Specific arrangements are also being made for left turns and straight routes to facilitate uninterrupted traffic. Similarly, those traveling from the Financial District to Raidurg will be able to make left turns and U-turns near the stadium without delays.
In addition, signal-free junctions will be implemented from Rayadurg to Shaikpet Flyover, from IKEA to Hitech City, and further to Madhapur's Yashoda Hospital. Development work under GHMC supervision is progressing swiftly to complete these junctions in the coming days. The success of the signal-free junction at Biodiversity has prompted authorities to replicate the same model at other major junctions in the area. Officials anticipate the completion of these projects within the next 20 days.
To further enhance traffic management, high-rise cameras have been installed in key IT company buildings. These cameras provide a 360-degree view within a one-kilometer radius, offering clear visuals, including vehicle numbers, to monitor traffic flow and detect congested areas. The cameras are linked to the Public Safety Integrated Operations Centre (PS IOC) under the Cyberabad Commissionerate, enabling real-time monitoring and rapid response to congestion.
The Traffic Joint Commissioner’s office is also connected to this system, allowing for immediate deployment of task forces when required. This proactive monitoring enabled the Cyberabad traffic police to effectively manage the vehicle flow even during the recent heavy rains. Officials are confident that the new signal-free junctions will provide much-needed relief to the traffic issues in the IT corridor.
