HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police have arrested a 29-year-old web designer, Kondoju Pranay Kumar, for defrauding job seekers across Telangana by posing as an HR representative and promising backdoor entry into companies like IBM and Wipro.

Kumar's modus operandi involved contacting job seekers through WhatsApp, posing as an HR representative, and offering lucrative positions in Canada-based roles at these companies. He then assured them of securing the job through a backdoor process and convinced them to pay various fees under the guise of registration, interview, and offer letter charges.

One victim, S Sukethan, fell prey to Kumar's scheme and transferred Rs 3,36,500 before realising he was duped. After Sukethan filed a complaint, Cyberabad police swung into action. They meticulously tracked the flow of funds into Kumar's three bank accounts and identified his location through call data records. Subsequent inquiries with banks confirmed Kumar's identity and ownership of the accounts.

On January 9, 2024, police apprehended Kumar at his residence in Karmanghat. They also seized two mobile phones used in the scam. Additionally, investigations revealed Kumar's involvement in another similar case registered at Garidepalli police station in Suryapet district.

Kumar used fake offer letters with forged domains and email addresses to further his deception. He capitalised on the desperation of job seekers and their eagerness for lucrative overseas opportunities.
