HYDERABAD: Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar has said that any small incident related to law and order in the state will have a severe impact on the development of Telangana. Therefore, police officers should be more vigilant and tackle the situation firmly.
The DGP held a video conference with police officers of the districts affected by left-wing extremism in the state, in the wake of the incident in which 10 security personnel and one civilian were killed in a landmine blast at Arunapur Police Station in South Bastar on April 26.
The DGP said that the officials would have to take adequate precautions in terms of security during the visits of political dignitaries and VVIPs in the state, especially in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.
There was a possibility of increase in the the movement of Maoist action teams in the border areas of the states. The DGP advised the officials to be more cautious about this.
After the formation of a separate state, many multinational companies of IT and other industries set up their offices and units in Hyderabad.
Maoists might act strategically by attacking one sector or any installation to create fear among people. Therefore, the DGP advised the officers to be alert at all times without taking any chances. Referring to the extremist activities in the State, he said that Left-wing extremism completely disappeared in Telangana due to continuous efforts of the police department.
Since 80 percent of the policemen in the State were new recruits, they should be made to be aware of Maoist strategies, actions and attacks.
The officers explained to the DGP some attacks perpetrated by Maoists.
Additional DGP (Operations) Vijay Kumar said that a special training will be arranged for the personal security officers who were drafted to cover VIPs on providing security in case of sudden attacks by Maoists and unexpected situations.
IG Prabhakar Rao said the situation of extremism in the state and the security measures to be taken by the police were comprehensively explained through a presentation to officers. He said that lolice should constantly interact with people at village level to gather information about the movement of Maoists and newcomers to the villages. Police in the villages bordering other states should take more precautions in this regard.
Additional DG Sanjay Kumar Jain, IG SIB Prabhakar Rao, IGs Chandrasekhar Reddy, Shanawaz Qasim, officers of all units and border area DSPs were present in the workshop.
