Elderly woman bravely fights thief, foils robbery bid in Vemulawada

HYDERABAD: A elderly woman bravely faced a thief armed with a knife who tried to break into her house in Bhagavanth Rao Nagar in Vemulawada of Rajanna Siricilla district on Sunday.

A video in this regard went viral on social media platforms commending the bravery and courage of the woman for facing off the thief armed with a knife. Despite the woman trying her best to resist the robbery bid, the thief escaped with a seven-gram gold chain that she was wearing.

According to police, the woman was identified as P Srilatha. Her husband stays in Gulf countries and two daughters were also away from home during the robbery attempt. The incident occurred around 4 am on Sunday, when Srilatha, who was alone at her house, came out after she heard a commotion.

When Srilatha searched outside her house, she noticed a thief armed with the knife standing behind the wall of the house. After noticing Srilatha, the thief attacked her with a knife but she somehow managed to evade the attack, the police said.

A case was registered by the police based on the CCTV footage in Srilatha's house and surrounding areas. Further investigations were underway into the incident to nab the thief, the police added.
