Farmers intensify protests against proposed pharma village in Kodangal
Farmers in Kodangal oppose land acquisition for Pharma Village, allege threat to agriculture and environment.
HYDERABAD: Farmers in Kodangal constituency, represented by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, have intensified protests against the proposed Pharma Village, voicing concerns over potential land acquisition and environmental pollution.
Local residents allege that fertile agricultural lands are being seized under the guise of employment generation for local youth, while in reality, they believe the plan serves the interests of pollution-heavy pharma companies.
Farmers from several villages, including Lacharla, Hakimpet, Polepally, Arbi Tanda, Pulicherlakunta Tanda, and Eerlapalli Tanda, have been protesting over the past days. Most recently, residents of Arbi Tanda launched a fresh round of protests on Friday morning.
Upon receiving reports of the protest, police reached Arbi Tanda and attempted to disperse the demonstrators. During the intervention, a confrontation ensued, leading to a lathi charge by the police to control the crowd. This action escalated tensions, resulting in a heated exchange between police personnel and local residents.
