Farmers lift project gates, agitate for irrigation water on Khammam-Suryapet National Highway

KHAMMAM: Farmers have swung into action contending that if water is not given to the fields, they will lift the gates of projects themselves.

There is intense tension on the main road on the Khammam-Suryapet main road on Tuesday.

Farmers of Palair constituency launched an agitation demanding release of irrigation water to farm fields.

There was a blockade on the National Highway as water was not being released for irrigation.

As the authorities did not respond, they went ahead lifting the locks and released the water.

The police and Irrigation department officials stopped them. A heated argument between farmers and officials ensued.

The farmers are angry that the government is not paying attention to crops drying up in 20,000 acres.

The farmers are angry with the authorities for not responding at least to their appeal twice in the past.
