Fluoride activist Amshula Satyanarayana passes away
Satyanarayana, a long-time fluoride activist, died after battling illness for four years in Nalgonda.
HYDERABAD: Amshula Satyanarayana, a prominent fluoride activist from Sivannagudem in Nalgonda district, passed away at the age of 75 after suffering from health issues for the past four years.
Satyanarayana dedicated over three decades of his life to fighting against fluoride contamination, which has severely affected his village.
His son, Swami, was born with fluoride-related health problems and was among the many in Sivannagudem who suffered due to the contaminated water. The village, home to 4,970 people, has 320 residents affected by fluoride, and 30 have died over the years due to the condition. Satyanarayana, along with his son, fought tirelessly for fluoride-affected victims for 35 years, campaigning in various ways to address the issue.
In January 2022, his son Swami, aged 37, passed away due to illness, which deeply affected Satyanarayana mentally and emotionally. Since then, his health had deteriorated further. Satyanarayana took his last breath in his native village of Sivannagudem in Marriguda Mandal, Nalgonda district.
His passing marks the end of a long battle against the fluoride crisis that has plagued the region for decades.
