HYDERABAD: The Telangana Government has decided to commemorate the birth anniversary of the revolutionary singer Gaddar as a state function.

According to an order issued by Shailaja Ramiyer, Principal Secretary of the Youth Advancement Tourism and Culture Department, on Tuesday, Gaddar's (Gummadi Vittal Rao) birthday anniversary will be celebrated on January 31st every year as a state function.

These orders were issued in response to a representation made by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on January 18. "Gaddar was a revered figure in the Telangana cultural and historical context, making remarkable contributions to our society in the fields of literature, social justice, and advocacy for the underprivileged. His birth anniversary falls on January 31 and deserves to be celebrated as a state function to honor his legacy and motivate the current generation to follow the values he espoused. Such recognition from the state would enhance the influence of his teachings and strengthen the sense of pride among the citizens," Ponnam Prabhakar stated in his letter to the Chief Minister.

The State Government also allotted 1,076 sq yards of place also at Tellapur in Ramachandrapuram of Sangareddy district for the installation of the late revolutionary balladeer’s statue.

Subsequently, the Director of the Department of Language and Culture requested the government to issue necessary orders to recognize Gaddar's birth anniversary as a State Function. Accepting the request, the State Government issued the orders declaring Gaddar's birth anniversary on January 31 as the State Function.
