HYDERABAD: A group of Group-1 aspirants met with BRS Working President K Taraka Rama Rao at Telangana Bhavan, urging him to press the government to postpone the upcoming Group-1 Mains exams. The candidates expressed concerns over unresolved issues stemming from the prelims, including discrepancies in question papers and confusion regarding government orders (GOs) 29 and 55.

For several days, candidates have been demanding a rescheduling of the Mains exams, which are slated to begin on October 21 under the Congress-led state government. Despite these calls, the Revanth Reddy government is proceeding with the planned schedule.

The situation escalated on Wednesday evening when hundreds of aspirants took to the streets in protest, demanding that the exams be delayed until these issues are addressed. In response, police were deployed in large numbers, and several protesting candidates were detained and taken to Begumbazar police station.

The candidates questioned how the government could conduct the Mains without resolving the discrepancies in the prelims, including errors in about 20 out of 150 questions. They also raised concerns about the lack of clarity on whether Telugu Academy textbooks would be used as the standard reference and if translation issues would be rectified in the Mains.

Aspirants pointed out that similar issues arose in previous Group-1 exams, including those held in 2011, which were later canceled, and again in 2016. They urged the government to avoid a repeat of such incidents by postponing the Mains until all court cases related to the prelims are resolved.
