HYDERABAD: Former minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao initiated a jala deeksha on Monday alongside Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy advocating for the release of water from Narayanapur Dam in Karnataka to meet the drinking water needs of the Jurala project in Gadwal.

Rao commended MLA Krishnamohan Reddy and other leaders for their dedication to addressing Gadwal's water scarcity issues. This initiative was undertaken to alleviate potential water shortages during the summer months, drawing support from people across various sectors of society.

Rao questioned why Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, with Karnataka's Congress government, couldn't negotiate to secure 5 TMCs of water. He also alleged that within four months of Congress governance, 200 farmers had committed suicide, highlighting the lack of positive change compared to the progress made during the BRS regime over the past decade.

He emphasised the injustice done to Palamuru by previous Congress and TDP administrations, contrasting it with the significant achievements, such as irrigating 6 lakh acres under projects like Kalwakurthy and Nettempadu, during the BRS regime. Rao hailed KCR for implementing schemes like Rythu Bandhu, even without election promises, and criticised Congress for failing to deliver on their pledges, including increasing Asara pensions for senior citizens.

Rao also slammed the BJP, accusing them of enacting detrimental agricultural laws and causing the deaths of 700 farmers. He called for the Palamuru Upliftment Scheme to be granted national status and accused the BJP of trying to undermine KCR's leadership by falsely claiming that farmers are turning to them for support. Furthermore, he accused Revanth of aligning with BJP solely to safeguard his own political position.

Rao asserted that for the Congress to fulfill its election promises, BRS must win parliamentary elections, and he expressed his support for Praveen Kumar, the Nagar Kurnool candidate, in this regard.
