Harish Rao submits resignation at Gun Park, asks Revanth Reddy to implement crop loan waiver, 6 guarantees by August 15
T Harish Rao kept his word and reached Gun Park in front of the State Assembly here on Friday with his resignation letter addressed to the Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker.
HYDERABAD: Former Minister and Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T Harish Rao kept his word and reached Gun Park in front of the State Assembly here on Friday with his resignation letter addressed to the Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker.
He was responding to a challenge from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Harish Rao, along with four more MLAs, first reached the BRSLP office inside the Assembly and approached the Gun Park strictly following the rules imposed by the Police. Obeying Section 144, he directed the cadre to stay away from the Gun Park and not to break the law.
The BRS MLAs, led by Harish Rao, then offered floral tributes to the martyr's memorial and placed the resignation letter on the pedestal. Later, he handed over the resignation letter to the journalists present there.
“I accepted CM Revanth Reddy’s challenge and reached Gun Park with my resignation letter. He is taking oaths in the name of local gods at every place he is visiting that he will implement Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver by August 15. If you will implement the Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver and the six guarantees plus 13 promises, let's hand over resignations. Give mine to the Speaker and yours to the Governor,” Harish Rao said speaking to media at the martyr's memorial.
Assuring the Chief Minister that he would not contest in the by-elections, Harish Rao said that if the latter had any inhibitions to reaching Gun Park, he could send the resignation through his assistant or anyone else.
“Why are you not coming forward? Our (BRS) aim is to ensure that you implement the promises, Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver, the pension, Rytu Bandhu, Bonus, and Rs 2,500 for women. You promised that you would implement a loan waiver on December 9 and remaining promises within 100 days of coming to power,” Harish Rao said.
He reminded the CM that the Congress had signed bond papers and Sonia Gandhi wrote to the people of Telangana assuring that the Congress Government would implement six guarantees within 100 days of taking over the reins.
“You must apologise first and then implement what you have promised on or before August 15. I am ready to resign in the Speaker’s format, if you want me to,” Harih said. He made it clear that he didn’t mind losing his MLA post if the people of Telangana benefitted from his act.
