HYDERABAD: Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Saturday night, accompanied by thunderstorms.

Several areas including Basheerbagh, Abids, Nampally, Koti, Narayanguda, Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Himayat Nagar, Uppal, LB Nagar, Kondapur, Madhapur, Hitech City, Gachibowli, and Financial District were affected by continuous downpour, leading to widespread traffic jams. Waterlogging worsened the situation, particularly in low-lying regions.

The downpour, which began in the evening, intensified around the time office-goers were heading home, causing severe traffic congestion. Vehicles were stuck for kilometres on major roads, including routes from Hitech City to Secunderabad and Panjagutta to LB Nagar. Notably, Khairatabad and surrounding areas experienced significant waterlogging, leaving many vehicles stranded.

In response, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and traffic police were on alert, issuing warnings to residents. They advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors unless it was essential. Efforts were made to clear waterlogged areas and ensure smooth traffic flow, but many commuters faced long delays.
