HYDERABAD: Tensions escalated at the Chikkadapally Central Library on Monday night as Hyderabad police launched a crackdown on unemployed youth and student leaders protesting for the postponement of DSC exams and an increase in Group 2 and 3 government job postings.

Protesters gathered at the library, demanding that the government address their concerns, including scheduling the Group 2 exam in December. The situation intensified when police resorted to lathi-charging the demonstrators and locking the library gates to prevent them from leaving. Several protesters were arrested, including Osmania University student leader Mahipal Yadav, who was forcibly removed from the scene despite expressing his willingness to cooperate.

The controversy deepened with allegations that women protesters were detained at the Bollaram police station late into the night in violation of Supreme Court guidelines.

BRS senior leader and MLA T Harish Rao strongly condemned the police response, calling it "brutal" and "evil." He questioned the government's actions, stating, "Is this public governance? Is this Indiramma Rajyam?" Rao demanded an immediate end to the alleged suppression of students and called upon Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take responsibility for the incident and issue an apology.
