Justice Shameem Akhtar appointed One Man Commission for SC sub-categorisation
The commission is tasked with submitting its report within 60 days, as directed by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has appointed a one-man commission, chaired by retired High Court judge Justice Shameem Akhtar, to study and implement the sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SC). The commission is tasked with submitting its report within 60 days, as directed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
This move follows a Supreme Court ruling on SC sub-categorisation, and the commission will assess the socio-economic conditions of different SC sub-castes based on the 2011 census. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to delay any new recruitment notifications until the commission's report is submitted.
The commission will receive all necessary data from various departments, and petitions discussed by the Cabinet sub-committee will be forwarded for consideration. Revanth Reddy has also ordered field visits across Telangana’s ten former districts to collect grassroots-level feedback and grievances related to SC sub-categorisation.
