Request for Kanti Velugu checkups in Facebook, Twitter says Harish Rao

The camps would be held in every gram panchayat and municipal ward to screen around 1.5 crore people over the next 100 days

HYDERABAD: Implementation of the second phase of ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme commenced across Telangana on Thursday. Ministers, MPs, MLAs formally inaugurated the eye screening camps in all the 33 districts of the state.

The camps would be held in every gram panchayat and municipal ward to screen around 1.5 crore people over the next 100 days. Free medicines and spectacles would also be distributed among the people.

Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao, speaking on the occasion, said, “The program’s goal is to ensure a Telangana free of blindness.” He also said that the Kanti Velugu has evolved into another role model for the nation.

The Health Minister also claimed that the Kanti Velugu teams would come to the colonies of the residents to conduct an eye-checkup. “Even a request placed on Twitter and Facebook would also be considered and a team would be sent to conduct a check-up,” he added.

The second-phase of Kanti Velugu was formally launched by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday at newly inaugurated Integrated District Collectorate complex at Khammam. The first installment of the program was completed in eight months.
