KCR govt grants eight more medical colleges in Telangana
Once established, Telangana will boast of a unique record in the country to host a medical college in each of its 33 districts
HYDERABAD: Realising the historic initiative of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to set up one medical college each in all 33 districts, the Telangana Government on Wednesday granted permission to establish medical colleges in eight more districts. The State Government issued separate Government Orders granting medical colleges for the districts of Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mulugu, Warangal, Medak, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajigiri.
Once established, Telangana will boast of a unique record in the country to host a medical college in each of its 33 districts. In the last nine years, medical colleges were already established in 25 districts.
Thanking the Chief Minister for the grant of new medical colleges, Telangana Health Minister Harish Rao said that Telangana was the only State in the country to have a medical college in each district. The newly sanctioned eight medical colleges would be developed and made operational from the next academic year for the students of medicine.
The Health minister said that the State Government’s initiative was taken to ensure better access to healthcare for the people. “In tune with the vision of ArogyaTelangana, these colleges will foster more opportunities for students to pursue medical education and further enhance healthcare services in districts. As many as 29 new Government medical colleges were established in Telangana in the last nine years, bringing the total number of MBBS seats in the State to an impressive 10,000. Once the newly permitted medical colleges become operational, the government will achieve the target of one medical college in all districts,” Harish Rao said.
