HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao formally handed over keys of 2 BHK flats to six beneficiaries of Asia’s largest weaker section housing complex at a simple function in Kollur on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Gaddameeda Renuka, Ashia Begum, Madavat Sarada, P Devi, Chakali Sujatha and Kedavath Kirthi were the few proud owners of the swanky new flats at the KCR Nagar, that received the keys from the Chief Minister.

Earlier, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao who accompanied the Chief Minister explained the project details of 111 two-bedroom projects of GHMC in Hyderabad through a photo exhibition. The Chief Minister went around the KCR colony in an electric buggy covering a 2.5 km distance.

The KCR Nagar, meant for economically weaker sections was built at a cost of Rs 1,489.29 crore. Spread across 145 acres of land the project contains 15,660 flats. In all 15,000 families that lived in makeshift houses so far, will be shifting to the new flats immediately.

While 37 percent of the total area was covered by houses, the remaining area was earmarked for greenery, parks, and playgrounds, with a possibility of further extension.

The dwellers of these flats need not pay maintenance charges as the rental income from 118 shops that were built as part of the complex will be utilised for maintenance of common areas, lighting and towards power to the lifts.

The GHMC under the Dignity Housing project aims to build one lakh 2bhk houses free of cost to all below-poverty urban poor in the GHMC area. So far works were grounded for 97,341 houses in 107 locations and the works on the remaining 2,659 houses are under different stages.
