HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) condemned the lathi charge on farmers in Adilabad waiting in line for seeds. KTR demanded action against officials responsible for the lathi charge.

In a statement here on Tuesday KTR said that the Government should immediately apologise to the farmers and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy should hold a high-level review meeting on the problems of farmers in the state.

“When farmers are being attacked in the state, it is a shame that the Chief Minister is busy campaigning in other states and touring Delhi,” KTR said. He added that the Chief Minister urged farmers to stay away from politics, before elections. But within five months after assuming power, the state was plunged into an agrarian crisis, which was a failure of the Government administration, he pointed out.

KTR said that the lathi-charge on the farmers, who were desperate for seeds, was the worst attack on the farmers. He lamented that in the five months of the formation of the Government, the condition of the state's agriculture, especially the farmers, had completely deteriorated.

"The vicious Congress government is unable to provide seeds to farmers, irrigation water, and Rythu Bandhu investment assistance," he said. KTR said that the Congress party, which promised to bring change and provide people's rule, was attacking farmers instead.

He said that for the last 10 years, the farmers of the state received all essential inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and 24-hour free electricity without any worry. “This is a complete failure of the Government, "he said.

KTR said that the state Government failed to purchase the paddy already harvested by the farmers and on the other hand, it could not even provide seeds.

Demanding an apology, KTR said that when farmers in the state were facing severe hardships and were reeling under an agrarian crisis, the Chief Minister was busy with an election campaign and a Delhi tour. He said the Government should keep politics aside and focus on farmers' issues.

He warned that the BRS would not spare anyone if farmers were attacked in the State. KTR said that he would stand by the farmers of the state and called for widespread protests on behalf of the party.
