KTR criticises Congress government for failing Telangana farmers
KTR accuses the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government of neglecting farmers' needs and mishandling compensation.
HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K Taraka Rama Rao criticised the Congress government under Revanth Reddy for its alleged failure to support Telangana’s farmers.
He claimed that since the Congress came to power, farmers have been plagued by numerous hardships. He alleged that farmers were forced to fight for essential needs like 24-hour free electricity, Rythu Bandhu support, and loan waivers.
KTR specifically called out the Congress government for its mishandling of compensation for crop damage caused by recent floods. He accused Revanth Reddy’s administration of betraying the farmers by failing to pay proper compensation. Despite significant damage across 4.15 lakh acres of farmland, KTR said, only a fraction of affected farmers were compensated. He described the compensation for just 79,574 acres as insufficient, questioning the government’s claims and data discrepancies.
The BRS leader asked why the reported crop loss estimates were drastically reduced, leaving farmers with inadequate support. "How can compensation be limited when so many acres were damaged?" he questioned, accusing the Congress government of turning a blind eye to the farmers’ suffering. He also pointed out that the state's report to the central government indicated 5.20 lakh acres of damage, but the compensation did not reflect that.
Farmers, KTR said, were left with ruined fields and insufficient financial aid, with only Rs 10,000 provided, which he deemed inadequate for restoring their lands. He urged the government to fulfill its responsibility and ensure that compensation is provided to every affected acre. KTR also criticised the government’s failure to deliver on loan waivers and other support programs, demanding that the Congress administration show fairness and humanity in its treatment of farmers.
