KTR criticises power tariff hike proposal, calls for exemption for farmers and small industries
BRS leader KTR opposes power tariff increase, argues for protection of farmers and small industries in Telangana.
SIRCILLA: BRS Working President K Taraka Rama Rao has strongly opposed the proposed power tariff hikes in Telangana, asserting that farmers and small industries should be exempt from any additional charges.
During a public hearing by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) in Sircilla, KTR argued that increasing electricity costs would unfairly burden citizens and threaten the stability of small industries.
KTR noted that for the past ten years, the state government has ensured free electricity for farmers without passing on any additional burden. However, he criticised recent tariff hike proposals, which he claimed could increase power costs by fivefold, impacting cottage industries and threatening job opportunities. KTR added that it would be unfair to impose these charges on middle-income households, small industries, and large industries alike, urging the ERC to consider the welfare of the people in its decision.
Criticising the Congress, KTR alleged that the party was attempting to undermine Telangana’s free electricity scheme. He claimed the proposed hikes would cause financial strain on the lower and middle-income groups, calling on people to resist these measures. He further questioned why small-scale industries, such as the weavers in Sircilla, should be treated the same as large corporations. According to KTR, the past ten months have seen increased power cuts and rising electricity bills, a situation he warned could have severe repercussions for the state’s economy.
KTR also addressed recent comments from Minister Ponguleti, who had remarked on possible "explosions" before Diwali, suggesting that it could lead to increased scrutiny from agencies like the Enforcement Directorate. Additionally, he criticised MLA Sanjay from Jagitial, describing him as politically divisive and alleging that Congress leaders in the area were turning against each other.
KTR ended by urging the ERC to reject the tariff hike proposal and protect the welfare of Telangana’s citizens, especially those relying on small industries and agriculture.
