KTR, Harish Rao condemns police behaviour towards journalists at Osmania University
KTR questioned if it's a crime for journalists to cover news or a sin for DSC candidates to protest.
HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K Taraka Rama Rao strongly condemned the rude behaviour of police towards a Zee News reporter covering the protest by DSC candidates at Osmania University on Wednesday.
"The illegal arrest of Zee News reporters and cameramen at Osmania University is outrageous. Is it a crime for journalists to cover news as part of their duty? Is it a sin if DSC candidates protest?" KTR questioned.
KTR also highlighted another incident where police misbehaved with a woman journalist at the Yellamma temple in Balkampet. "Journalists are not protected in Indiramma's Rajyam? Does democracy mean coercion on journalists?" he asked, emphasising that such actions are unacceptable.
"Ever since the Congress came to power, scenes reminiscent of past movements have returned to Osmania University, with police presence and barbed wire everywhere. We strongly condemn the police's attitude towards journalists. Freedom of the press cannot be compromised in a democracy," KTR demanded, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the detained journalists.
Former minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao also condemned the police's actions. "Arresting journalists and forcibly taking them to the police station is a violation of media rights and freedom. We warn the government to change its tyrannical attitude towards journalists," Harish Rao said while demanding the immediate release of the detained journalists.
