HYDERABAD: An avid fan of science and technology, Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao lauded Dr. Drew Weissman and Dr. Katalin Kariko on being awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their groundbreaking work in mRNA vaccines.
Taking to X on Wednesday, the Minister congratulated them and recalled his interaction with American Physician and scientist Dr. Drew Weissman during BioAsia 2022. “I had the privilege of listening to and interacting with Dr. Drew Weissman during BioAsia 2022, where he shared his remarkable insights into the future of medical science,” KTR said.
Their pioneering research paved the way for revolutionary advancements in healthcare, he said. “As we proudly maintain our status as the Vaccine capital of the world, I am delighted that we had the opportunity to recognize their work much earlier.
KTR said that the contributions of innovators like Dr. Kariko and Dr. Weissman would continue to drive progress in life sciences, shaping a healthier future for all.
Drew Weissman is best known for his contributions to RNA biology. His work was used for the development of mRNA vaccines. The best known are those for COVID-19 produced by BioNTech, Pfizer and Moderna.
