HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K. Taraka Rama Rao described the Mudigonda massacre as evidence of Congress's brutal rule.

In a tweet, KTR noted that today marks the 17th anniversary of the massacre. He recalled how the Congress government in Khammam district's Mudigonda shot and killed farmers and communists like birds.

On July 28, 2007, poor farmers in Mudigonda, Khammam district, peacefully protested for land and housing. The Congress government responded with police firing, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals. The protest, which began as a peaceful demonstration, turned violent when police, without warning, targeted and shot at the protesters. The sudden lathi charge, followed by indiscriminate firing, caused panic, leading to the deaths of seven people and injuries to many others, including three who were left disabled.

The bodies of the deceased were placed in front of the Khammam Collectorate, where a prolonged protest ensued. In memory of the victims, a martyr's memorial was erected at the site of the shooting under the leadership of left-wing parties.
