Lift door opens at wrong time, woman on phone falls to death in Khammam

KHAMMAM: Mobile phone addiction, coupled with poor lift maintenance, led to a freak accident in Khammam district of Telangana, resulting in the death of a woman on Wednesday. What's more appalling, the bizarre incident happened in the elevator shaft (lift shaft), right inside a private hospital.

The incident was caught on the CCTV camera installed opposite the lift and the chilling visuals gave a graphic account of how the incident happened. The woman, identified later as Prameela of Gorlepahad in Wyra mandal of Khammam district, died on the spot after the freak fall into the elevator shaft. As the video showed, the victim was talking over her mobile phone when she attempted to open the elevator door.

To her misfortune, the door opened quickly due to a technical glitch even without the lift arriving at the floor. The woman did not realise this as she was completely lost in her phone conversation and stepped inside as if she was entering the lift. She fell down from many floors and died instantaneously.
