HYDERABAD: Telangana Minister for Health T Harish Rao laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 1,000-bed hospital in Mahabubnagar on Thursday. The hospital will be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister said, "After Telangana was formed, the first medical college was built in Palamuru village in Mahabubnagar. There were only three medical colleges but after TRS had came to power, 12 medical colleges were established in eight years."

The Minister also said that the government would soon start a para-medical course in the medical colleges this year. "We also started a nursing college and plan to lay the foundation stone for the permanent building with Rs 50 crores," he added.

The Minister said that notifications for the filling up of 1,147 assistant professor posts were issued and out of them, 969 posts were filled up by Tuesday. "According to reports, the number of MBBS seats was increased by 71 percent across the country, whereas it was increased by 112 percent in Telangana," added the Minister.

Telangana Minister for Prohibition and Excise Srinivasa Goud, several Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries participated in the programme.
