Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir overflows ahead of schedule due to heavy inflow
Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir reaches full capacity, prompting authorities to release excess water through two gates.
NALGONDA: The Nagarjuna Sagar project reached full capacity ahead of schedule, following a significant inflow of water from upstream. The reservoir, now resembling a brimming pot, prompted authorities to lift two gates to release the excess water. The water level reached the full reservoir level of 590 feet. The heavy inflow caused water to cascade over the crest gates, creating the appearance that all the gates had been opened.
At present, the inflow into the reservoir stood at 64,699 cusecs, with an equal amount being released downstream. The reservoir's maximum water storage capacity is 312.50 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet). Out of this, 16,200 cusecs of water were being released through two gates. Additionally, water was being supplied for power generation as well as to the right and left canals.
