Namesake: All too many with similar names; BJP’s Konda Vishweshwar Reddy drags ECI to court
According to reports, another candidate named Konda Vishveshwar Reddy was also found listed as an independent candidate on the ballot paper
HYDERABAD: BJP Chevella candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy filed a petition with the Telangana High Court on Thursday, alleging that the Election Commission of India (ECI) failed to address his concerns regarding another candidate sharing the same name, causing confusion among voters.
According to reports, another candidate named Konda Vishveshwar Reddy was also found listed as an independent candidate on the ballot paper. The BJP candidate has appealed to the Election Commission (EC) to ensure a minimum separation of ten other candidates' names on the ballot to prevent confusion.
However, the EC has clarified that current regulations do not allow such alterations at this stage. Subsequently, the High Court has referred the matter back to the EC for further deliberation.
Similar concerns have emerged in other electoral constituencies. For instance, in Nizamabad, the contest will feature Congress's Thatiparthi Jeevan Reddy alongside an independent candidate, Tutukuru Jeevan Reddy. Meanwhile, in Nagarkurnool, the electoral fray will pit Congress's Mallu Ravi against the Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party's Amboju Ravi.
