National Handloom Day: KCR highlights Rs.28-cr loan waiver, 40 pc subsidy on yarn

HYDERABAD:Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao extended greetings to the entire weaver community on the occasion of National Handloom Day on Monday.
He said that the State Government undertook a slew of schemes for the welfare of handloom workers to bring a qualitative change in their lives. “The Government always stood by the weaker sections and underprivileged communities,” he said.
The Government had been providing a monthly pension of Rs 2,016 to the deserved weavers. The CM said that the Government provided gainful employment to weavers through the distribution of ‘Bathukamma’ sarees and the ‘Netanna insurance’ scheme was introduced for the benefit of weavers. He announced that a new scheme ‘Netannaku Chedodu’ was introduced to augment the income of weavers.
Enlisting other measures, he said that the Government also introduced geo-tagging so that all the benefits reach the beneficiary directly. Subsidy on the purchase of yarn, silk, wool, dye and chemicals was also enhanced from 20 percent to 40 percent through "Cheneta Mitra".
The Chief Minister said the Government waived off the loan amount of Rs 28.96 crores availed by the handloom workers and Rs 120 crore of fresh loans were provided at 25 paise interest to 523 societies.
The CM said the government provided special training to weavers on saree manufacturing on power looms and purchased the finished products under the Handloom Policy (T-TAP). He said that the Telangana Government's sincere efforts toward the development of handloom workers were yielding desirable results.
