Osmania University bans cake-cutting in front of Arts College, gardens
They want to ensure that the tourists and visitors are not inconvenienced by the garbage and waste generated by cake-cutting celebrations.
HYDERABAD: The Osmania University (OU) has banned cake-cutting in front of the iconic Arts College in the campus. The decision was taken by the college authorities in order to maintain cleanliness and hygiene on the campus.
The Arts College is a heritage building. Recently the Union Tourism Minister had spent ₹12 crore to set up a dynamic laser show and a musical fountain on the campus. They want to ensure that the tourists and visitors are not inconvenienced by the garbage and waste generated by cake cutting celebrations.
The ban has been met with mixed reactions from the students and staff of the college. Some students welcomed the decision, saying that it would help to keep the campus clean. Others expressed their disappointment saying that cake cutting was part of college culture and that the ban was unnecessary.
The university would soon transition into a closed campus, with plans to restrict automotive traffic. This change would be implemented upon the completion of a link road, which would circumvent the campus and connect the Vidyanagar-Amberpet side with Adikmet and Tarnaka.
