Paddy procurement: Govt deposits Rs 3,000 crore in farmers accounts

HYDERABAD: Telangana Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar has said that Rs 3,000 crore has been deposited in farmers' accounts on Friday in connection with paddy procurement in the Yasangi harvest season.
In a press release issued here on Saturday, Kamalakar said till now the government had procured grain worth Rs 13,264 crores from farmers and a total of Rs 9,168 crores had been deposited in their accounts. Remaining farmers would also receive the paddy procurement amount into their accounts before June 20, 2023, he said, adding that 64.52 lakh tonnes of paddy had been purchased from 11 lakh farmers so far.
The minister said that as many as 7,034 buying centres were set up this season and 6,143 centres were closed after the purchases were completed. Paddy procurement had been completed in 18 districts and the purchases would be completed by Sunday in the rest of the districts. Around 15 lakh tons more paddy had been collected during this Yasangi compared with the previous season, he pointed out.
Kamalakar said that even in the scorching summer, crops were cultivated in Telangana with farmer-friendly policies of Chief Minister K Chandrashehar Rao (KCR) such as Rythu Bandhu, 24-hour free electricity, water and paddy purchase in villages. He observed that Telangana became number one in Yasangi paddy collection in the country due to the decisions taken by the Chief Minister.
The paddy had been cultivated in 56.84 lakh acres of the state at a record level during this Yasangi. He thanked the cooperative societies, millers, hamalis and authorities who participated in the Yasangi paddy collection.
