KARIMNAGAR: Former Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has said that the Government has no intention to save farmers by releasing water for irrigation. He gave a call to farmers to take the fight to Medigadda barrage to ensure that water is lifted and released through the Kaleshawaram project system.

KCR visited Maqdumpur village in Karimnagar district on Friday as part of his ‘Polam Baata’ programme to reach out to farmers affected by the drought-like situation in the State.

“This Government has no intention to give water. Be prepared for a fight. Don’t get disheartened. We have to fight to get water to irrigate our crops. After the Lok Sabha elections, I will lead 10,000 farmers to Medigadda, where we will see that water is released from the Kaleshwaram project,” KCR said assuring the farmers in the village.

Earlier, farmers told KCR that most of them had spent Rs 40,000 for seed and other inputs per acre but the crop dried because of lack of timely irrigation. “One last flooding of the land was pending. If the last wetting was given, we could have saved the crop worth thousands of rupees,” another farmer rued.

A few other farmers led KCR to their farm and showed him their dried agricultural lands and paddy crops. They said that the Congress Government had cheated them. They pointed out that they never faced a grim situation like this when KCR was at the helm of affairs.
